Hatching Egg Policy
We cannot control the conditions in which our customers incubate the eggs they receive from us. For this reason, we do not take responsibility for poor hatch rates and DO NOT offer refunds nor replacements on eggs that do not develop or do not hatch.
Please commit carefully when placing a hatching egg order with us. Hatching egg results will range anywhere from 0% - 100%. DO NOT purchase hatching eggs if you are not comfortable with the possibility of a 0% hatch rate. As a reminder: we cannot control shipping conditions, how the eggs are handled outside of our care, conditions in which eggs are incubated, abrupt and unpredicted changes in mating and egg laying, as well as knowing if a particular egg was fertilized at the time of lay.
We maintain weekly fertility records from all of our breeds by hatching chicks weekly for chick orders, for ourselves, or for future started bird inventory. We do not fill egg orders unless we are recording at least 90% fertility at the time of order fulfillment. Eggs for fulfillment are no more than 3 days post-lay and are carefully inspected for quality, shape and color. Extra eggs of similar breed(s) are added to every shipped order to ensure successful delivery and increase hatchability at no additional cost. Our promise to the customer is to provide, to the best of our ability, quality, fertilized eggs from healthy flocks that have the potential to hatch beautiful, healthy chicks.
By placing a hatching egg order with us, you acknowledge the inherent risks of fertilized eggs and accept that there is no reimbursement offered for eggs that do not develop or do not hatch.

Quantity and Minimum Requirements
We offer our hatching eggs by the dozen ONLY and have a minimum order requirement of one dozen for both shipped orders and orders for pick up. Breeds can be mixed and matched, but must meet these quantity and minimum requirements to place an order.

Pick Up & Shipping Procedures
Our eggs are collected fresh, twice daily. Hatching egg orders are filled with the freshest eggs possible that are no more than 3 days post-lay. All hatching eggs are washed and treated with Tek-trol, a hatching egg solution that mimicks the natural bloom/cuticle of the egg, to eliminate any bacteria absorption in the egg post-lay. *This is the same treatment performed on all the eggs we hatch ourselves. There is no negative impact caused from washing and treating hatching eggs.* All hatching eggs are carefully inspected for quality, shape and color prior to order fulfillment. Orders are filled based on the date that's selected by the customer at check out.
PICK UP ORDERS:
Orders for pick up must select a date from our availability calendar during check out. That date is NOT your pick up date. That is the date we will contact you to schedule your pick up for the rest of that week. Generally speaking, we have pick up availability from Wednesdays to Sundays each week. We do not offer pick up availability on Mondays and Tuesdays. Customers can expect to be contacted via email to schedule their pick up. Please be sure to mark our email (info@deerrunfarmmd.com) as safe to ensure communication reaches your inbox and is not redirected to your spam or junk folder.
SHIPPED OREDERS:
Shipped orders are securely packed in custom foam egg shippers and sent via USPS Priority Mail (1-5 day) or Priority Mail Express (1-3 day). Boxes are clearly marked as FRAGILE and indicates live embryos inside. NPIP VS9-3 certificates and incubation tip cards are included inside the box with each shipped order. Orders are shipped directly to the customers provided address. Requests for postal holds for pick up may be made in the comments section at check out.
Please commit carefully when placing hatching egg orders for shipping. Shipping nationwide is a risk. Temperature fluctuations, weather delays and poor handling are inherent risks associated with shipping. We cannot be held responsible for the conditions in which your eggs are handled while in transport to you and beyond.
Priority Mail orders come with $50 insurance through the USPS. Priority Mail Express orders come with $100 insurance through the USPS. We understand that these insurance amounts may not cover your entire purchase. We ask customers to request additional insurance in the comments section when placing an order with us, if desired. Please note: USPS insurance only covers the loss or damage of hatching eggs if destroyed by physical damage to the package. Damaged eggs, including cracks and detached air sacs, without physical damage to the shipping container are not eligible for reimbursement by the USPS and Deer Run Farm cannot be held responsible for damages caused after they've left our possession. Please refer to USPS's Domestic Mail Manual, Chapter 609, section 4.3, articles: g. Perishable contents frozen, melted, spoiled or deteriorated; l. fragile nature of article prevented its safe carriage in the mail, regardless of packaging; o. damage caused by shock, transportation environment, or x-ray, without evidence of damage to the mailing container.
