About Our Dog Treats

LGD FUND
Our Livestock Guardian Dogs play a very important role on our farm by keeping our free-range chickens safe from predators.
We've had 2 Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs working full-time, around the clock, on our farm since 2018. Lieutenant and Sergeant have gone above and beyond their call of duty during their time here on our farm. They've chased off a number of foxes, hawks, bald eagles and raccoons. They've even slept in the coops in the evenings with flocks being pestered by the neighboring owl. We owe it to them to keep them safe and healthy when they're in need.
At the end of 2025, Sarge was diagnosed with a perineal hernia. This was a situation that if left undiagnosed and ignored, would have cost him his life. We did what any good dog parent would do and had him seen by a specialist that was eventually able to provide a surgery to fix him up. That surgery came at a tough time for us and was not cheap. We reached out to friends, family and farm-followers for help. We crowd-sourced funds to ensure Sarge could get the medical attention he needed. When it was all said and done, we were on the hook for nearly $14,000. Thanks to the support of the wonderful community around us, we were able to cover the costs of his medical expenses with about $8,000 donated. We couldn't be more thankful or grateful for the outpouring of love that we received from everyone.
Now that we're nearing the end of that chapter for Sarge, we've realized that these kinds of emergencies can happen anytime. Emergencies or changes of plan happen all the time on the farm. We do what we can to adjust and adapt. Unfortunately, farming isn't a fast track to wealth. If anything, it's the opposite. To be more prepared in the future for a possible vet emergency for one of our LGDs, we're keeping our LGD FUND open. Due to their age, we're not eligible for pet insurance as pre-existing conditions wouldn't allow it. If you feel moved to donate to support our LGDs, you can do so here. We also offer homemade dog treats from farm. All proceeds from dog treat sales go directly towards our LGD FUND.
We appreciate everyone who's able to give a donation or purchase our dog treats in support of our LGDs. It means everything to us to know that we're a part of an amazing and supportive community.
