Buy Chicks - Mail Order

Thanks for your interest in buying our chicks! We're now taking pre-orders for the SPRING HATCH SEASON. We will begin hatching every Tuesday starting February 27th with our last hatch on June 5th for the 2018 season.

Chicks for mail order need to be in multiples of 25. This ensures sufficient body heat for the chicks to survive their journey. Feel free to mix and match smaller quantities of the different breeds. But, the total number of chicks ordered must equal 25, 50, 75, or 100. All of our chicks are vaccinated against Marek's disease to ensure they get a good start in life. We do not charge extra for this service like other hatcheries do.

Chicks are shipped weekly on Tuesdays via USPS Express Mail or USPS Priority Mail. Unfortunately, we cannot provide estimates as to when your chicks will ship. All orders will be filled in the order they are received. We also take into consideration the weather in the receiving state. For example, we won't ship chicks to Maine in March. You will be contacted via phone when your chicks ship. That will give you 24-48 hours notice. If you have any "black out" dates, indicate them in the "Notes" section during check out and we will not ship your order those weeks.

Ameraucana chick orders will contain both Blue and Black color varieties. Maran chick orders will contain both Black Copper and Blue Copper color varieties. We are not set up to sell only one color variety at this time. If you have a color preference, specify it in the "Notes" section during check out. We will do our best to try and accomodate your preference.

Breeders pick is exactly that. Chicks from any of the four breeds we raise that are left over after filling all breed-specific orders. When filling Breeders Pick orders, I try to mix up the breeds to give a variety, but some weeks, I may only have one or two breeds available. You may get only one breed, you may get all four breeds. If you place an order for several different breeds, I highly recommend you include a few Breeders Pick chicks. Not only will it save you money, but it will allow me to get your order out sooner. Often I may be short one or two chicks from one breed to complete an order. If I have the flexibility to substitute with a Breeders Pick chick, then your order goes out that week. We cannot accommodate breed preferences for Breeders Pick chicks. If you want to be sure to get certain breeds, you should order breed-specific chicks.

All chicks are sold straight run. Statistically, you should get approximately 50% males and 50% females. The larger your order, the closer you will get to this 50/50 split. Much like flipping a coin, you have a 50/50 chance of getting heads or tails but if you flip a coin 6 times, you may or may not get heads 3 of those times . . .

When paying with PayPal, please confirm that your telephone number and address in your email receipt is current. PayPal autofills the name, address and phone number on your chick order. If it is not current, the U.S. Post Office will not be able to call you when your chicks arrive. And, I will not be able to contact you. It won't end well for the chicks. You will get an email confirmation after you place your order. Please look at the address and phone number on your order to confirm that it is correct. Thank you!

PRE-ORDERS FOR SPRING HATCH

Buy Chicks - On Farm

Thanks for your interest in buying our chicks! We're now taking pre-orders for the SPRING HATCH SEASON. We will begin hatching every Tuesday starting February 27th with our last hatch on June 5th for the 2018 season.

For on-farm pick up orders, there is a 6 chick minimum order. You can mix and match the different breeds as long as the total number of chicks is 6 or greater. All of our chicks are vaccinated against Marek's disease to ensure they get off to a good start in life.

All chicks are sold straight run. Statistically, you should get approximately 50% females and 50% males. The larger your order, the closer you will get to this 50/50 split. Much like flipping a coin, you have a 50/50 chance of getting heads or tails, but if you flip a coin 6 times, you may or may not get heads 3 of those times . . .

During the check out process you may specify in the "Notes" section which color variety of Marans or Ameraucana you prefer. We will try our best to meet those preferences.

We hatch out on Tuesdays. You will be contacted by phone on Wednesday when your chicks are ready. You will have until Sunday to pick up your chicks. We need to have the brooder empty in time for the next batch of chicks.

Buy Fertile Eggs - Mail Order

We're happy to provide our customers with fertile eggs when our girls are laying. For shipped orders we require a 12 egg minimum purchase and order multiples of 12. You can mix and match the eggs with any breed, but you must meet the 12 quantity minimum and multiples.

Our eggs are collected daily and shipped no more than 3 days after they're laid. Collected eggs are stored separately and properly to ensure freshness and improve viability.

We recommend purchasing twice as many eggs as you want chicks if you're hoping to get hens. Statistically, your hatch should yield 50% Males and 50% Females. We also recommend purchasing a few extra to increase your likelihood of hatching your ideal number of chicks. Although we're able to hatch at 80+%, most people are happy if they get 50%. The longer an egg waits to be incubated the less likely it is to develop a chick. The traveling and the handling that the eggs will endure before making it into an incubator will play a factor into their hatch rate. It's best to set your eggs as soon as you receive them. If you're not able to set them right away be sure to store your eggs in a cool location out of direct sunlight. Room temperature of stored eggs should be 60ºF.

We offer two shipping methods through the post office just as we do with day-old chicks: Priority and Priority Express. We always recommend Priority Express for a quicker delivery, but realize it can be more cost effective to ship standard Priority. Eggs will ship Monday through Wednesday so they're guaranteed to reach their destination before post offices close on Sunday.

Although we will guarantee your eggs arrive intact and ready for incubation, we cannot guarantee your hatch rate. There are multiple factors in the shipping of fertile eggs that are just simply out of our control. Even if the outside of an egg is completely intact and seemingly ok, handling by the post office can damage them enough that they do not hatch. The internal arrangements of chicken eggs are relatively delicate and can be disturbed enough that they do not hatch. Your incubation conditions are also beyond our control. Eggs will not develop chicks unless exact incubation conditions of temperature and humidity are met. Any cracked or broken eggs will receive a refund or in case of 50% or more eggs are damaged we will reship them provided we receive photos of damages within 48 hours of receiving.

**Please understand that not all eggs from each breed will be available at all times in any quantity you desire. Our girls need breaks too! Since we raise them naturally without any artificial lighting we see a dramatic decrease in egg production throughout these seasons. This does not mean eggs aren't available at these times - it only means we're not able to accommodate large orders of one breed at once. Please feel free to place your order. We will contact you as soon as possible to discuss your order and a time frame you can expect to receive your fertile eggs.**

Nik&Co Treats

Shortly after the retail sales of beef began on the farm, we quickly discovered that the market for some beef products such as the liver, heart, tongue and tail were not as popular. In order to keep product moving we invested in a large dehydrator that we sampled dehydrated products with our own dogs, Nike and CoPilot. With their approval, we started making the dehydrated products in bulk. Realizing our dogs couldn't eat it all on their own, we created Nik&Co.

Nike & CoPilot

Currently we offer both Dehydrated Beef Liver and Dehydrated Beef Heart along with Dehydrated Bananas and Dehydrated Sweet Potatoes. All of our products are simply, just that, dehydrated. We don't use any additives in our products so they're all natural and healthy for dogs.

You can purchase our dehydrated dog treat products here. All treats have been tested and approved by our very own Bernese Mountain Dog pups, Nike and CoPilot!
